Azerbaijani Section of International Francophone Press Union established
Zeynab Kazimova was selected Head of the Section
Foundation meeting of Azerbaijani Section of The International Francophone Press Union (French: Union internationale de la presse francophone, UPF) took place in Baku. UPF is headquartered in Paris and it comprises more than 3,000 representatives from 110 countries around the world. Zeynab Kazimova, a founder and Editor-in-Chief of “Le Carrefour”, the only French-language newspaper in Azerbaijan, and manager of the www.lecarrefour.az website, made a speech at the meeting. She dwelled on the importance of establishment of the UPF’s Azerbaijani section and noted that this would be a big step towards development of cooperation with international press and creation of more opportunities for publishing Azerbaijani journalists’ articles and news in the international mass media. The President of the Azerbaijan Republic Ilham Aliyev, she said, emphasized on more than one occasion that the integration of both Azerbaijani press and Azerbaijani journalists into international mass media would be more active in the future.

As a member of UPF since 2002, Zeynab Kazimova provided detailed information about multi-sided activity of the Union and its members representing mass media from more than 100 countries around the world. She emphasized that establishment of the national section of the UPF would create new opportunities for development of cooperation and information exchange between Azerbaijani journalists and their colleagues from other countries. Those Azerbaijani journalists writing in French, who would become members of the UPF’s Azerbaijani section, she said, would be able to participate in workshops, sessions and training courses organized by the UPF in many countries. Moreover, she told, cooperation of Azerbaijani journalists with international mass media and their participation in various activities would assist in publishing true and unprejudiced articles about Azerbaijan in the international mass media and would create favorable conditions for free information exchange.

It was noted that there are journalists who do not write in French, but who study and are interested in the French history, literature, culture and art. If those journalists become members of the Azerbaijani section of the UPF, said Zeynab Kazimova, they can attend French language courses to be arranged by the section.

At foundation meeting, Zeynab Kazimova was elected Head of the Azerbaijani Section of the International Francophone Press Union by a majority vote. The meeting participants also approved an internal structure of the section.

The International Francophone Press Union was established in 1950. It is widely recognized by reputable inter-governmental organizations such as UN, UNESCO and others.

It shall be noted that Zeynab Kazimova is also Head of Public Relations Department of the Baku Higher Oil School.
