Gas outburst at SOCAR’s Gunashli platform develops into fire - UPDATED
The workers were all evacuated and there are no injuries.
Nine ships of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and the Caspian Sea Shipping Company are involved to eliminate the gas outburst at the Gunashli 19 platform of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, the company told.

All technical measures have taken to prevent a possible danger in connection with the gas outburst, said SOCAR.

Experts and those who are needed to localize the accident are on the scene, other workers have already been evacuated, said SOCAR, noting that additional ships will be involved, if needed.

All 69 people on the platform have been evacuated.

Currently, the work on extinguishing the well is underway.

Fire broke out at the Gunashli 19 platform of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR after low pressure gas outburst, the company said in a message Sept. 26.

All technical measures have been taken to prevent the danger in connection with the gas outburst occurred at the Gunashli 19 platform of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, the company told.

9 ships are working to prevent the incident.

Gas manifestations were not prevented yet, measures are underway.

If needed, additional ships will be sent.

“Measures were taken in accordance with safety procedures,” SOCAR said. “Security of 49 employees of the platform was ensured.”

There are no casualties, said the report.
