German government does not recognize `referendum` in Nagorno-Karabakh
The German government does not recognize the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and, accordingly, considers that the `referendum` held in Karabakh does not have any legal influence, the German Foreign Ministry said, AzVision.az reports citing Vestnik Kavkaza.

"The German government does not recognize Nagorno-Karabakh. The referendum held in Nagorno Karabakh on February 20 has no legal effect from the perspective of the German Federal Government, and also has no effect on the future status of Nagorno Karabakh," the statement says.

The German diplomatic ministry`s response also notes that Germany, together with its EU partners, supports the mediating efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as the work of the EU special representative in the South Caucasus, and calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to find a peaceful and mutually acceptable solution to the conflict.

On February 18, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, said that Europe cannot give up on the principle of territorial integrity and stressed the fundamental importance of this principle. Thus, Germany has once again confirmed its commitment to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
