President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by President of the Chamber of Representatives of the General Assembly of Uruguay Gerardo Amarilla.
President Aliyev stressed the importance of high-level representation of the Republic of Uruguay in the 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

He noted the importance of the issues to be discussed at the forum to all countries. The president said a lot of work has been done for development of dialogue between nations and religions.

President Aliyev stressed the important role of reciprocal visits at different levels in expanding the bilateral relations.

Although Azerbaijan and Uruguay are situated far from each other, there are good opportunities for development of the bilateral cooperation, the president said. He also expressed confidence that the visit will create good opportunity for the Uruguayan delegation to get familiar with Azerbaijan.

Gerardo Amarilla conveyed greetings of Uruguay’s President Tabare Vazquez to President Aliyev. He hailed the importance of the 5th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

Amarilla said his country supports peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with the norms of international law. He noted that Uruguay will take on non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council in the coming months.

President Aliyev thanked for the greetings of President Tabare Vazquez and asked Gerardo Amarilla to extend his greetings to the Uruguayan president.
