Prince Mikasa, oldest member of Japan`s royal family, dies aged 100
Prince Mikasa, the uncle of the Japanese emperor and the oldest member of the country’s royal family died on Thursday aged 100, the Imperial Household Agency said.
Mikasa was hospitalized in May with pneumonia. According to local media, he underwent a cardiac surgery in June. He was the youngest brother of Hirohito, the father of current Japanese Emperor Akihito, and was fifth in line to the Chrysanthemum throne. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe expressed his condolences to the royal family.
