US businessmen show interest in Azerbaijan - Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce
Representatives of nearly 35 US companies visited Azerbaijan during past three years, Michael Lally, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, told reporters in Baku Dec. 2.
He said nearly 200 meetings were held during these visits: “These meetings yield results. Speaking the plans for 2017, certain programming works are underway. One of these is an event to be held by the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan (AmCham) in the US in March. This will contribute to development of business environment in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan has already determined its objectives. These objectives are development of non-oil sector and diversification. I think certain works should be done to achieve these goals”.

Michael Lally said two of AmCham’s proposals are development of business environment and involvement of investments in non-oil sector: “Azerbaijan is conducting reforms in this direction. These reforms allow investing in Azerbaijan. We see US businessmen’s interests in Azerbaijan and are working on it”.

He also noted that there is a direct air transport between Azerbaijan and US, which is an important step for development of the ties: “There are great opportunities for development of links with Azerbaijan in IT and agriculture. Azerbaijan is cooperating with the US on space. Azerbaijan has its own satellite which operates by using US latest technologies”.
