What is Alien Day?
Alien Day is an unofficial holiday for fans of the iconic space-horror franchise. So no, we’re afraid you can’t claim a day off work.
It’s also a big promotional event for the new film Alien: The Covenant.
Why is Alien Day celebrated today?
Some avid fans may have already figured this one out.
Aliens, the 1986 sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 cult film, is set on a colonial moon called Acheron.
However, before it was given a proper name, the moon was known as LV-426.
Because of this, Alien Day is taking place on the American date 4/26 – which we would write as 26/4 – April 26.
The first official Alien Day was held in 2016, to celebrate the film’s 30th anniversary.
Which special events are taking place?
The main event today is a global live streaming, which you can catch on Alien Universe at 5pm UK time.
The one-hour programme will be broadcast live from the Fox Studios in LA and will involve cast members from Alien: Covenant, as well as exciting reveals.
When is Alien: The Covenant out?
Alien: The Covenant is the latest film in Ridley Scott’s franchise – and a sequel to his 2012 blockbuster Prometheus.
Michael Fassbender, James Franco, Katherine Waterson, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride all star in the film – which will be released in the UK and US on May 19.
