Lithuanian MPs adopt statement condemning Khojaly Genocide
A group of members of Lithuania’s Seimas (parliament) has adopted a statement condemning the Khojaly genocide, Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Lithuania told AzVision.az on Thursday.
Calling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict ‘one of the most tragic conflicts’ that took place in the 20th century, the Lithuanian deputies noted that twenty percent of the Azerbaijani territory is still under occupation.

“Over a million Azerbaijanis have been displaced from their homes as a result of the occupation. The four UN Security Council resolutions on immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied Azerbaijani territories still remain unfulfilled,” reads the statement.

The Lithuanian deputies assessed the killing of hundreds of civilians in Khojaly as the most terrible crime against humanity and expressed their condolences to the people of Azerbaijan.

The statement reaffirmed Lithuania’s support to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.

The Lithuanian deputies called for the implementation of resolutions adopted by international organizations in connection with the withdrawal of the occupying forces from Azerbaijan’s occupied territories.

On February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian Armed Forces, together with the 366th infantry regiment of the former Soviet troops, stationed in Khankendi, committed an act of genocide against the population of the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly.

As many as 613 people, including 63 children, 106 women and 70 old people were killed as a result of the massacre. A total of 1,000 civilians became disabled as a result of the onslaught. Some 1,275 innocent residents were taken hostage, while the fate of 150 people still remains unknown.
