We would like to create a direct railway line between Azerbaijan and Poland - Polish president
"I welcome President Ilham Aliyev in Poland, not just because he is the Head of State, he is also a person who pays special attention to the expansion of economic cooperation with Poland,” Polish President Andrzej Duda said in a statement to the press following his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.
During your visit today, we signed many documents between our countries. I believe that the purpose of these documents is to expand cooperation, especially economic, scientific and political cooperation because the documents we have signed will enhance our political cooperation, our strategic partnership, and that is very important. I am very glad that the economic potential of our countries is quite vast and we are realizing trade exchanges worth $100 million a year.

Regarding economic opportunities, despite their wide range, our cooperation is not at the desired level yet. Documents were signed today. Mr. President, I sincerely look forward to open a joint business forum with you today, and business circles of our countries meeting within the framework of this event. This is, in fact, indicative of huge support of the presidents of the countries to economic cooperation and cooperation between companies in particular,” he said.

The Polish president thanked Ilham Aliyev for inviting him to Azerbaijan.

"We thank you for your support for the election of Poland as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Our election showed that we are strongly supported by 190 UN member states, and we are very pleased to be going to be a non-permanent member of the Security Council in 2018-2019. It also means our position on the international arena has strengthened.

The Polish president said that many issues were touched upon during the meeting.

"Our views on many strategic issues coincide. We did have an exchange of ideas. We talked about Ukraine as well as Donald Trump's visit to Europe—in particular to Poland.

Mr. President, I also thank you for expressing your views on strengthening economic relations between Europe and Asia. You noted that our relations in the field of transport should be expanded. We would like to create a direct railway line between Azerbaijan and Poland through Georgia and Ukraine. This is very important. Because of this, our transport corridor, in fact, is being implemented entirely by China's "One Pipeline, One Way" project. We are a part of this project and our access to India and Iran is ensured. We believe that through this perspective, we will also expand our trade relations and contacts. Great opportunities are going to arise for both Poland and Azerbaijan. Therefore, our economic relations are an important part of our bilateral relations. I am very glad that our position on the expansion of our economic cooperation with Asia coincides. We would like to implement these projects.

We also touched upon our energy cooperation. I hope we will work closely in the energy sector as well. These ideas were first introduced during the presidency of Professor Lech Kaczyński.
