Floods in Chinese Province of Yunnan Leave 10 People Dead
Heavy rainfalls caused floods in the Chinese province of Yunnan leaving 10 people dead, while 1,200 residents were urgently evacuated, local media reported Tuesday.
Heavy rains in 45 counties of the province, which have been continuing since July 19, led to severe floods and mudflows in some areas, the CCTV broadcaster reported.

The disaster affected almost 223,000 people, 200 buildings were destroyed and 2,400 more damaged. Direct economic damage has already exceeded 270 million yuan (about $40 million).

Devastating floods regularly hit China with the deadliest ones having occurred in 1931 when the overflows left from 145,000 to 4 million people dead, according to various estimates.
