The ex-president was informed that the mass burial site in Guba was unearthed on April 1, 2007 during the excavation work on the territory, and then scientists of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences conducted researches there. The researches revealed that there are remains of the victims of the genocide committed by Armenians in 1918.
The Guba Genocide Memorial Complex was created with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The complex opened on September 18, 2013. In the photos there is a stand of photos featuring different areas of Guba at the beginning of the 20th century, the construction work carried out at that time and the lifestyle of the population. On a special map installed on the touch screen, you can get information in several languages about the acts of genocide committed by Armenians in various parts of Azerbaijan.
As part of his trip to Guba, the former Croatian president also visited the ancient town of Krasnaya Sloboda (Red town) which is home to the Jewish population, as well as the Heydar Aliyev center and a carpet-weaving enterprise.
