Russia, China to sign contract on heavy-lift helicopter in coming months

Russia and China will sign a contract to create a new generation heavy-lift helicopter in the coming two months, Director for International Cooperation and Regional Policy of Russia’s state corporation Rostec Viktor Kladov told reporters on the sidelines of the AERO INDIA - 2019 exhibition on Wednesday, TASS reported.

"We have prepared and will sign in the coming two months a contract of the century with China on joint development, production and sales of the new generation heavy-lift helicopter. We have spent four years of intense talks on this project," Kladov said.

According to the official, the helicopter will be more powerful than US Sikorsky but smaller than Russia’s Mi-26 and will have cargo capacity of 15 tonnes.

The AERO INDIA - 2019 exhibition kicked off at India’s Bangalore air base on February 20 and will run until February 24. The event is held once in two years under the auspices of the Indian Defense Ministry and the government. This time Russia is expected to showcase more than 200 defense products.
