Bulgaria considers Azerbaijan ‘one of its closest partners’

Azerbaijan is Bulgaria’s closest partner in the energy field, said Bulgaria’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.

She made the remarks at a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov in Baku on Monday, AzVision.az reports.

The minister noted that Bulgaria and Azerbaijan attach the great importance to the energy sector.

Zaharieva said the trade turnover between the two countries amounts to $34.5 million, and this figure can be increased.

She went on to say that Bulgaria and Azerbaijan also enjoy cooperation in the tourism sector.

In turn, Minister Mammadyarov said that there is a strategic cooperation agreement between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.

“Today we discussed political, economic, transport and other issues. Bulgaria will fully take part in strategic projects to be implemented,” he said.

Mammadyarov noted that he also briefed his Bulgarian counterpart on the current state of negotiations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
