  Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister addresses UN High-Level Political Forum ministerial segment

Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, Chair of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development Ali Ahmadov has addressed the ministerial segment of the UN High-Level Political Forum held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in New York.

Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov highlighted the ongoing social and economic reforms in Azerbaijan. He also spoke about the country’s efforts to build opportunities for inclusive and sustainable economic growth for all and ‘leaving no one behind’ which is a priority for Azerbaijan.

The Deputy PM said that the National Coordination Council was set up to effectively coordinate the activities towards the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan.

Pointing to the challenges facing Azerbaijan in achieving the SDGs, Ali Ahmadov provided an insight into the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict which poses a serious threat to peace, security and cooperation in the region. He drew the audience’s attention to the consequences of the dispute, saying that 20 percent of Azerbaijani territories was occupied by Armenian aggressors, and more than a million of Azerbaijanis became refugees and IDPs. Pointing out four UN Security Council’s conflict-related resolutions, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov noted that Armenia has not yet implemented them.
