At least one police officer has been killed in a knife attack inside the Paris police headquarters before the assailant was shot dead.
The stabbing at the headquarters, located just across the street from Notre Dame Cathedral, happened around 1pm on Tuesday.
French daily newspaper Le Figaro reported five people had been attacked and two killed.
It was not immediately clear how far inside the building the assailant got before police shot him.
The area around the headquarters has been sealed off, BFM TV reported.
