Armenia pollutes rivers flowing to Azerbaijan - UN Special Rapporteur

'Most farmers face severe water shortage and environmental pollution. The situation is observed in rivers that flow across the border from Armenia,' UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food Hilal Elver noted.

As a result of economic and social changes within 20 years, Azerbaijan has turned into middle-income country with high indicators. However, the country needs to make efforts for diversification of economy and supporting farmers.

Elver also added that Azerbaijan has taken important steps for establishment of Azerbaijan's Food Security Agency, as well as laws, policies or programs on food security. Currently, the main issue is allocation of relevant funds for implementation of goals and expansion of economy for all strata of society.
