Russian FSB: "ISIS plans to expand its activity in CIS"

“The fighters of ISIS terrorist organization plan to expand their activities in CIS countries,” Aleksandr Bortnikov, director of Russia's Federal Security Service stated at the meeting of the Council of Heads of Security and Intelligence Agencies of the CIS countries, AzVision.az reports citing APA.

According to him, special service bodies of CIS observe an increase in ISIS units’ activity in Afghanistan: “We have recorded an increase in activity of ISIS units and Khorasan group in Afghanistan. “Jamaat Ansarullah” and “Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement” are closely related with them. Their purpose is expansion in CIS area and create a site there.”

Director of FSB noted that ISIS’s expansion in CIS area is supposed to be carried out by fighters from citizens of Central Asia Republics: “Terrorists understand that they have been defeated in Syria and Iraq. That is why they withdraw rest of their forces from Middle East. They create new unstable zones in Asia and Africa, form dormant den networks in Europe.”
