 Settlement of Karabakh conflict is in Russian president’s center of attention - Moscow

Russia continues to play an active role in mediation efforts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the Russian MFA noted commenting Lavrov's two-day visit to Azerbaijan. 

'Assistance to the sides in the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement is one of the Russian foreign policy priorities and stands in the center of attention of the Russian president. our firm conviction, the settlement should be achieved exclusively by political and diplomatic means, through dialogue between the sides. Either part of OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, or in our close relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia, we will help to reach compromise,' the message read. 

During the visit, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov will meet with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, as well as hold discussions with his Azerbaijani counterpart. 

During the meetings, regional and international issues, as well as settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be discussed. Besides, the advisory plan for 2020 will be signed between Azerbaijan and Russia. 

The Russian MFA notes, developing strategic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia are advancing based on the intensive political dialogue. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have held two meetings in Beijing and within the Valdai Forum. 

First Vice-President of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva had been on an official visit in Russia on November 20-25. Within the visit, Russian President received First VP Mehriban Aliyeva. Besides, First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva has met with chairperson of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko, as wel as Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev. 

Furthermore, the document highlights the importance of Inter-Regional Forum.
