The Committee on Legal Policy and State Building of the Milli Majlis has today hosted an online meeting, Azerbaijani MP Kamal Jafarov said, AzVision.az reports.
Kamal Jafarov stated that the meeting covered the discussion over the project proposed by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the humanisation of penal policy and decriminalisation of crimes.
MP revealed the details of the amendments: "The proposed project on the humanisation of penal policy and decriminalisation of crimes was prepared in accordance with the enforcement of the decree "On Deepening of the Reforms in the Judicial-Legal System" dated 3 April 2019 signed by the President Ilham Aliyev".
"Over 9000 people were pardoned and nearly 3000 prisoners’ sentences were mitigated in accordance with the enforcement of the order dated February 10, 2017and the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 816-VQ dated October 20, 2017", Jafarov noted.
