About 8,000 IDPs to be provided with homes this year – Azerbaijani president

The Azerbaijani state is consistently addressing the problems of internally displaced people, said President Ilham Aliyev.

The head of state made the remarks Thursday during the inauguration of Gobu Park-3 residential complex for the internally displaced persons in Garadagh district, Baku, AzVision.az reports.

“I promised that there would not be a single tent camp left in Azerbaijan in five years. We managed to achieve this in four years” he said.

The president noted that last year alone, homes were built for 5,000 displaced families.

“We set the goal ourselves to provide homes to 7,000, maybe even to 8,000 IDP families this year. If we achieve this goal, about 40,000 people from other cities will be moved to new houses in Baku and Sumgayit within one year. Next year, we will allocate funds from the Investment Program to achieve this goal,” he added.

The head of state noted that to date, more than 300,000 internally displaced persons have been provided with homes and apartments.
