Today, August 5 marks one year of lockdown in Indian administered Kashmir.
The Indian Government started the lockdown on 5 August 2019 following Revocation of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir via scrapping of the Article 370 of the Constitution of India, Article 35A of the Constitution of India and the introduction of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019.
People in Kashmir have been living under a government-imposed lockdown since August 2019. The Pakistani side claim that they are dealing with both the coronavirus pandemic and an erosion of their political freedom and right to self-determination and the lockdown is having a disastrous economic, social and political impact on the people of Kashmir.
