The use of civil and humanitarian flights for military purposes is unacceptable and illegal, the Georgian Foreign Ministry said while commenting on media reports about the use of the country's airspace to transport military cargo, AzVision.az reports.
Following the escalation of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Georgia has completely closed the airspace for the transit of military cargo, and the airspace is open only to civilian and humanitarian cargo.
The Foreign Ministry said that the flights in Georgian airspace fully comply with international norms and ICAO rules.
"Parties operating in the airspace of Georgia are responsible for the performance of civil flights in accordance with the requirements of the Chicago Convention. If any violations are found, Georgia will react harshly, and the offending party will be held accountable under international law."
