70-year-old pulled alive as Turkey quake death toll hits 46- UPDATED

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Seferihisar district in the western province of Izmir on Friday according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

Rescue workers extricated a 70-year-old man from a collapsed building in western Turkey on Sunday, some 34 hours after a strong earthquake in the Aegean Sea struck Turkey and Greece, killing at least 46 and injuring more than 900 people.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, or AFAD, raised the death toll in Izmir, Turkey’s third-largest city, to 44 as rescuers pulled more bodies out of toppled buildings. Two teenagers were killed Friday on the Greek island of Samos and at least 19 others were injured.

The tremors occurred in the Aegean Sea at a depth of 16.5 kilometers (10.3 miles) but were felt across Turkey’s third-largest city and as far away as Istanbul in the north, AzVision.az reports citing Turkish media.

AFAD announced 24 people were killed and 804 others were injured.

At least 12 people were killed and 419 others injured when a magnitude 6.6 earthquake jolted the city of Izmir on the Turkish Aegean on Friday, according to the country’s disaster management agency.

At least six people have been killed and 202 injured after a powerful earthquake in the Aegean Sea toppled buildings in the Turkish city of Izmir and created sea surges on Greek islands.

A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Seferihisar in the western province of Izmir on Friday according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), AzVision.az reports citing Daily Sabah.

The tremors occurred in the Aegean Sea at a depth of 16.5 kilometers (10 miles) but were felt across Turkey’s third-largest city and as far away as Istanbul in the north.

Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that four people died in the earthquake and 120 people were injured in total.

The quake was strong enough to send people into the streets in panic in a country that has seen major earthquakes that killed thousands in the past. Three people were pulled out alive but injured from the rubble of a building in Izmir's Bayraklı district.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or widespread damage according to the authorities but the quake was enough to send people into the streets in panic in a country which has seen major earthquakes which killed thousands in the past. However, videos and photos circulating on the social media shows heavy damage to some buildings in Izmir.
