Hikmet Hajiyev: Tartar – one of European cities subjected to large number of missile attacks

Following the Geneva meeting mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Armenia’s armed forces shelled Azerbaijan’s Tartar, Aghdam, Goranboy and Aghjabadi districts using heavy artillery and other weapons, said Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the Azerbaijani President, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration.

According to the presidential aide, today, from about 06:00 to 12:00, the Armenian armed forces fired over 300 shells at six settlements and 26 villages, in total, in 32 settlements of the indicated districts.

Hajiyev noted that on the day of the Geneva meetings, over 200 shells were fired by the Armenian armed forces at Azerbaijan’s Tartar, Aghdam, Goranboy, Aghjabadi and Dashkasan districts.

“Unfortunately, it should be stated that the city of Tartar is one of the European cities, which was subjected to the largest number of missile and bomb attacks after World War II. Since September 27, over 15,000 shells and missiles have been fired at Tartar region,” he said.

The presidential aide stressed that Armenia, which has suffered a fiasco in its propaganda about mercenaries, is inventing new disinformation about white phosphorus.

“Armenia, using white phosphorus munitions, is trying to shift the responsibility for this onto Azerbaijan. The shell fired on October 8 by the Armenian armed forces at Arayapili village of Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli district was found out to be a phosphorus one. The Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) has neutralized it and conducted relevant documentation work,” he added.

The presidential aide reminded that Armenia fired a phosphorus shell at Askipara village of Tartar district during the 2016 April battles. “The shell was neutralized in the presence of military attachés and an OSCE representative.”

“Currently, there are reports that the Armenian armed forces delivered a large amount of phosphorus munitions to Khojavend to commit environmental terror in the form of forest fires and use them against the Azerbaijani Army,” Hajiyev concluded.
