  Today is Remembrance Day of National Heroes - Martyrs of Tovuz Battles  
 

Today is the first anniversary of the martyrdom of a servicemen of the Azerbaijani Army, Major General Polad Hashimov and Colonel Ilgar Mirzayev.

Both servicemen of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan died heroically on the front line during the battles of Tovuz on July 14, 2020.

By the order of President Ilham Aliyev dated December 9 last year, Polad Gashimov and Ilgar Mirzaev were awarded the title of "National Heroes of Azerbaijan". 

The heroes were buried on July 15 at the 2nd Alley of Honors.

Note, Polad Hashimov was born on January 2, 1975 in Vendam settlement of Gabala district. In July 1976, when he was 6 months old, his family moved from the Gabala to Sumgayit. Polad Hashimov was the Deputy Commander of the 3rd Army Corps of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces - Chief of Staff. He is the first and only general of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces killed during military operations.

One of the streets in Baku, Sumgayit and Gabala is named after Polad Hashimov. Also, a new park named after Polad Hashimov has been built in the Demirtas region of Turkey's Osmangazi region.

Ilgar Mirzayev was born on May 8, 1973 in the Gardabani district of Georgia. He served as Artillery Chief of the 3rd Army Corps of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
