“Khizi-Absheron” wind power plant will contribute to ensuring Azerbaijan’s energy security - President Aliyev

The “Khizi-Absheron” Wind Power Plant will contribute to ensuring the energy security of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said, AzVision.az reports.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for the 240-megawatt “Khizi-Absheron” Wind Power Plant to be built in Azerbaijan by ACWA Power of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

President Ilham Aliyev and Minister of Energy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al-Saud attended the ceremony.

"Today is a very significant day in the life of our country. Today, a groundbreaking ceremony for a new wind power plant to be built in Azerbaijan is being held at the Gulustan Palace. I sincerely congratulate you and all the people of Azerbaijan on this occasion," the head of state said.

The construction of this plant once again shows the Azerbaijani state attaches great importance to the production of renewable energy, President Aliyev noted.

He recalled that about a year ago, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power signed an executive agreement.

“In fact, a decision has been made to build the plant, and we are celebrating this beautiful day together after active work over the past year. This plant will be the largest power plant in Azerbaijan’s renewable energy sector. Its capacity will be 240 megawatts and, of course, as I said, will contribute to the energy security of our country, as well as create many jobs. Also, our plans to save natural gas will be resolved. This plant will naturally be of great importance in reducing the negative impact on the environment,” the head of state added.
