Third phase of ANAMA-NATO Jeyranchel Clearance Project starts
Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) will hold an event on the subject “Presentation of the third phase of the ANAMA-NATO/NSPA Partnership for Peace Trust Fund Project “Jeyranchel Project” and prospects of future projects of Trust Fund in Azerbaijan”.
ANAMA told that Jeyranchel area located in the north-western part of the country along the Azerbaijani-Georgian border was intensively used as a testing and training area of the former Soviet Army in 1955-1991s.

During the first phase of the project lasted 28 months (April 2012 – July 2014), 19 square meter area was fully cleared and 14 654 UXOs and 173 mines were found and disarmed.

The second 24-month phase of the project started on July 8, 2014 and 23.585.545 square meter area was cleared, 1,553 UXOs and thousands of metal splinters were found and disarmed.

The third phase started in January 2017 and it is intended to conduct clearance operations in 22 square meter area. The third phase is expected to end in 2018.

The third phase of the ANAMA-NATO/NSPA Partnership for Peace Trust Fund Project “Jeyranchel Clearance Project” on the clearance of 21.395.505 square kilometer area was officially confirmed by NATO. Turkey has taken the role of the Lead Nation for this project. The Government of Azerbaijan contributed 50% of the total budget of the project.

The presentation of the third phase of the project will be held on September 26 in Baku.
