"We should solve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. I guess, the issue of liberation of five Armenian-occupied Azerbaijani regions will be raised at the presidents' meeting. The thing is that this issue is covered inaccurately in Azerbaijani and Armenian media as well as in the Russian media. The mismatches among the countries' positions create deadlocks.
For example, the Armenian media presents this issue as a betrayal to the state's national interests. However, the Azerbaijani media describes the issue as a victory. On the other hand, no one takes it seriously in the Russian media. I think, this plan is very well-planned and the journalists of those three countries should present the issue properly", he said.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territory, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the surrounding districts.
