The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was also mentioned in the text: "Recognising the importance of the commitment of the Republic of Armenia to the peaceful and lasting settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the need to achieve that settlement as early as possible, in the framework of the negotiations led by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs; also recognising the need to achieve that settlement on the basis of the purposes and principles enshrined in the UN Charter and the OSCE Helsinki Final Act, in particular those related to refraining from the threat or use of force, the territorial integrity of States, and the equal rights and self-determination of peoples and reflected in all declarations issued within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairmanship since the 16th OSCE Ministerial Council of 2008; also noting the stated commitment of the European Union to support this settlement process".
EU's double standard policy
New agreement signed between Armenia and the European Union is similar with the Association Agreements signed between the EU and Moldova, Georgia. However, there is a big difference between the Association Agreements and the agreement signed with Armenia in political point of view. In the Association Agreements signed with Georgia and Moldova, states' territorial integrity is mentioned as the main principle for the settlement of the conflicts, but nothing is included regarding the self-determination of nations. When it comes to the agreement signed with Armenia, the document envisages the territorial integrity, as well as, the self-determination of nations.
In addition, the Association Agreement with Moldova and Georgia, as well as with Ukraine highlights that the sides are loyal to independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and border integrity. If Ukraine begins the war following preparation of the document of the Association Agreement, it is not secret that the EU will openly protect the territorial integrity of Ukraine. However, territorial integrity was not presented as a main condition in agreement with Armenia. In this regard, it can be said that the EU has developed a different point of view for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in comparison with the Moldova, Georgia and Ukraine conflicts."
