EU summit building evacuated again
Problem in the Europa building’s kitchens will not affect this week’s summit, Council says. The European Council building in Brussels was evacuated Wednesday for the second time in less than a week, a day before EU leaders arrive in Brussels for a summit.
“Despite checks and precautions, a further technical incident occurred today in one of the Europa building kitchens,” the Council said in a statement.

“The technical issue affecting the ventilation in the kitchens of the Europa building, producing noxious fumes in the kitchens, has led to a number of staff falling ill.”

Last Friday, a similar incident led to 15 people needing treatment, including five being hospitalized.

EU leaders will hold a summit in the building — known informally as the “Space Egg” — on Thursday and Friday. The Council said the problem in the kitchen will not affect the summit.
