‘Azerbaijan should improve basic package of mandatory health insurance’
The Azerbaijani State Agency on Mandatory Medical Insurance thinks it necessary to improve the basic package of mandatory health insurance, Zaur Aliyev, director of the state agency on mandatory medical insurance, said.
Aliyev made the remarks in Baku at the opening ceremony of the twinning project entitled "Support to implementation of the mandatory medical insurance system in Azerbaijan".

"As part of the pilot project, we have not included provision of medicines in the basic package of mandatory health insurance, which creates certain problems for the treatment process,” he said. “Therefore, we assess the possibility of including partial provision of medicines in the basic package of mandatory health insurance."

Aliyev also added that the insurance premium collection system, which has not been carried out within the pilot project, will be tested in the future.

The basic package of mandatory medical insurance in Azerbaijan includes more than 1,800 medical services, namely, medical examination, treatment, diagnostic procedures, surgery and other services.

The treatment of certain diseases through state programs has not been included in the basic package of mandatory medical insurance, but in the future they are also planned to be included in the basic package.

The Azerbaijani State Agency on Mandatory Medical Insurance has been operating since February 2016.
