On September 22, being without documents and not getting any consent from relevant executive authorities, four Turkish citizens Ufuk Uras, Ali Bayramoglu, Said Cekinoglu and Erol Katircioglu illegally crossed the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan. Hikmet Hajiyev said that Azerbaijani law-enforcement agencies continue staying in contact with Turkish law-enforcement bodies on their illegal travel to Nagorno-Karabakh.
Hajiyev emphasized that as a result of propaganda and awareness-raising efforts, people have no longer believe in Armenia’s lies, and foreign ministries of some countries have posted news on their websites that there is legal liability for such visits.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
