“Intermittent gunfire and occasional use of artillery systems, including land mines and mortars, result in deaths and injuries each year. Avoid roads near the ‘line of contact’ and roads near the international border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The U.S. government is unable to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in Nagorno-Karabakh as U.S. government employees are restricted from traveling there,” said the Department of State.
Overall, countries have been divided into four levels in terms of travel safety. Azerbaijan has been categorized as a level 2 country, which requires increased caution.
It is worth noting that the Department of State has not referred to Nagorno-Karabakh as a separate country. However, the warning against travel to Nagorno-Karabakh is given on the pages about both Azerbaijan and Armenia.
