Azerbaijani MP urges PACE to refrain from double standards
Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva has urged the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to refrain from the double standards.

Addressing the Free Debates in the PACE today, member of the Azerbaijani delegation Ganira Pashayeva spoke about the Khojaly genocide, and protested against the PACE leadership which invited the Armenian president to the organization and voiced harsh statements in response to Sargsyan’s lies.

Pashayeva accused the Armenian delegation of delivering false information to the Assembly and spoke about the Khojaly genocide: “After a month, we will commemorate the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide which was committed in 1992. The perpetrators of this genocide are still free and unpunished in Armenia. The Armenian leadership still fails to fulfil the PACE resolution 1416 which demands the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands, especially Khojaly,” AzVision.az reports.

“Nevertheless, the Assembly has taken no serious step against such act of Armenia. While preventing the next provocation of the Armenian armed forces, two young Azerbaijanis lost their lives only in January. Despite the resolution, Armenian armed forces brutally murdered underage children Zahra, Fariz, Aygun and wounded tens of civilians, destroyed and burned their houses. As a representative of a frontline district, call my colleagues in the parliament to visit our region to see the truth with their own eyes. If this resolution had already been fulfilled, a large number of people, including children and civilians, wouldn’t have lost their lives. Unfortunately, the PACE, instead of exerting pressure against Armenia to fulfill its resolutions, it invited the president of this occupying country to the organization and gave him an opportunity to make a speech that is based on lies. We condemn it and express our protest.

Thus, the Armenian president is a person who was directly involved in the occupation of Azerbaijani lands and perpetration of the Khojaly genocide. Besides, the Armenian president denies fulfilling the PACE and UN resolutions, which require the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands and return of a million of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons to their native lands,” said Pashayeva.

“Dear friends, our people cannot understand the reasons for double standards in PACE. Unfortunately, the Assembly failed to demand the head of the occupying country, which does not fulfil the resolutions that require the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani lands and return of a million of Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons to their native lands to put an end to such acts and implement the resolutions. We urge the Assembly to refrain from such double standards. We call on the Assembly to respect its resolutions and take serious measures and exert pressure against Armenia to force it to fulfil the Resolution 1416 and other resolution regarding Sarsang reservoir. One million Azerbaijani refugees and internally displaced persons, who are unable to return to their homes for 25 years and whose rights have been violated by Armenia, are expecting it from you," said the member of the Azerbaijani delegation.
