Azerbaijan plays stabilizing role in the region – Ilham Aliyev

“Azerbaijan successfully implemented strategically important energy projects together with Georgia and Turkey such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Jeyhan Oil Pipeline and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum Gas Pipeline”, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in his speech at the 6th Global Baku Forum which is being held in Baku.

“Currently, we are implementing the Southern Gas Corridor project which joins seven countries. This is really a project of the 21st century, a 40 billion project initiated by Azerbaijan and supported by our partners, by European Commission, and which is being successfully implemented. The pipelines contribute to the strengthening of energy security in Europe. National security is dependent on energy security. Azerbaijan meets 40% of many European countries’ demands for oil. This year we will be able to extract gas from Shahdeniz-2 field.

Besides, Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey regional cooperation successfully continues. We attended the opening ceremony of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway on October 30, 2017. This railway allows transporting goods between Asia and Europe within two weeks. Currently, our partners from Asia and Europe use this railway.

Azerbaijan also aims to strengthen the understanding between Asia and Europe and Muslim and Christian world. Azerbaijan is playing an important role as a stabilizing factor in the region where it is situated. Our initiatives aim at regional cooperation, predictability, and the strengthening of security measures in our region", Ilham Aliyev noted.
