Respect for int’l law will further strengthen respect for territorial integrity of countries -Iranian FM

Iran, Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia share common cultural ties, said Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Zarif made the remarks at a press conference following the first quadrilateral meeting with his Azerbaijani, Turkish and Georgian counterparts in Baku on March 15.

“I’m glad that the first quadrilateral meeting is taking place in Baku. I would like to thank the friendly people of Azerbaijan,” he said.

Iran reaffirms its commitment to regional cooperation, Zarif said, adding. “We also want bilateral, trilateral and quadrilateral cooperation to be formed.”

Iran’s top diplomat stressed that respect for international law will further strengthen respect for the territorial integrity of countries and boost regional cooperation.

“Cooperation in the fields of energy, transit, tourism, industry and technology can contribute to the development of all countries in the region. The Persian Gulf connects Iran with the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, so we offer a more convenient route to regional countries,” he said.

Zarif expressed hope that the quadrilateral cooperation will open up an opportunity for even broader cooperation.

The Iranian minister stressed the need to set up a working group in order to determine areas for cooperation.
