"We are currently working on the creation of the North-South Transport Corridor and we have completed all the necessary work in our territory. Thus, the routes going from north to south and from east to west pass and will pass through the territory of Azerbaijan. We have allocated additional funds to complete the North-South Transport Corridor, and I am sure this railway will be put into operation in the next few years. Thus, Azerbaijan, which has no access to open seas in Eurasia, will become a transport and logistics hub. We already see it, and we are already fulfilling this function," President Ilham Aliyev said.

"Launch of the Baku International Sea Trade Port proves that we have fulfilled all of our duties on transport infrastructure", Aliyev noted, 

"A lot of works have been done so far. We have the largest fleet, more than 260 vessels in the Caspian Sea. I was informed that additional 18 vessels were bought during past years. A shipbuilding plant was built in Baku with my initiative. We can build all types of ship, we build and we eliminated dependence on foreign partners.

"During past 15 years, 15,000 km-road has been constructed in Azerbaijan. During these years, 7 airports were also built. Heydar Aliyev International Airport has been awarded a 5-star status", President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.

"We modernized our railway infrastructure, are renewing existing railway lines, constructing new railway lines. We purchase locomotives, wagons. Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway was launched in this place in October 2017. This was a historic project. We connected Baku with Europe. This route will bring benefit to us for long years. Successful implementation of this project will strengthen Azerbaijan’s regional position", he added.

The new Baku Port will play an important role in strengthening Azerbaijan's transport potential, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.

"Today is a very significant day in the life of our country. The Baku International Sea Trade Port is being put into operation," President Aliyev said.

"I sincerely congratulate Azerbaijani people on this wonderful event. I am confident that the new Baku Port will play an important role in strengthening the transport potential of our country. I made the decision to build the Port several years ago. I knew, I saw that Azerbaijan will have a major transport, transit potential, that our country will develop rapidly. The made decision showed that our policy is far-sighted, weighted," the head of state said.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the opening of the Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex.

Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev informed the head of state of the complex.

President Ilham Aliyev launched the complex and toured the area of the port.

The head of state then met with staff of the port and builders.
