Summit of Caspian states planned to be held in August – Azerbaijani diplomat

The summit of the heads of the Caspian littoral states is planned to be held in first half of August, Khalaf Khalafov, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister, Head of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Caspian Sea’s legal status from Azerbaijan told on June 13.

“There is a proposal on the date of the Caspian states’ summit, but the date should be specified by the host country,” said Khalafov.

The Azerbaijani diplomat said the Ad Hoc Working Group is planning to hold meetings prior to the summit.

“At least one meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group is due to take place prior to the summit. A ministerial meeting may be held a day before the summit,” he added.

The text of the convention on the Caspian Sea’s legal status has already been agreed upon, Khalafov stressed.

“We hope that the convention will be signed at the summit. Bilateral meetings and consultations are held. Bilateral contacts go in parallel with discussions on the convention,” he added.
