UNHCR Regional Representative hails social conditions for refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan 

Regional Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the South Caucasus Johannes Van Der Klaauw has commended the government of Azerbaijan for its efforts to improve social conditions of refugees and internally displaced persons, as he met with the country`s Deputy Prime Minister Ali Ahmadov.

Ali Ahmadov highlighted the Azerbaijani government’s work to address problems of refugees and IDPs and improve their social welfare. He praised the continuous support of the UNHCR to the projects implemented by the Azerbaijani government.

Ahmadov thanked the CEO of the Fuji Optical Co. Ltd, world famous optometrist Akio Kanai, who was also participating in the meeting, on behalf of the Azerbaijani government for the unpaid optometric services rendered to the refugees and internally displaced persons as well as low-income families in the country. He described this act a great example of humanity and kindness.

Newly appointed UNHCR representative in Azerbaijan Guido Ambroso was also present at the meeting.
