Amendments to Azerbaijan’s migration legislation come into force - VIDEO

Laws signed by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev to introduce amendments to the Migration Code and the Code of Administrative Offenses have come into force.

According to the amendments made to Article 21 of the Migration Code, the registration of foreigners or stateless persons wishing to stay in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days will be conducted at their place of residence.

According to the previous legislation, in case the residence or work permits of foreigners or stateless persons in Azerbaijan is cancelled based on the legislation, they are expelled from the country and restrictions are imposed for their entry in to the country in all cases. The restriction on the arrival of foreigners or stateless persons created certain difficulties in the business sector or entrepreneurs’ activities in many cases. According to the approved amendments, in case of elimination of the grounds that were the reason for the cancellation of the residence or work permits of foreigners or stateless persons in Azerbaijan, the restrictions on their entry into the country shall be lifted.

Under the amendments, foreigners or stateless persons who failed to obtain permanent residence permits in Azerbaijan can apply for temporary residence permits to the State Migration Service, providing only a request form.

In addition, foreigners or stateless persons, who were administratively fined for violating the rules of stay, live in Azerbaijan or transit crossing through the country, shall pay the fine within 10 days.
