Some 16 senior officials were detained on corruption charges in Azerbaijan in 2015, Kamran Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Deputy Prosecutor General, said at a press conference Jan. 15.

`The department conducted preliminary investigations over 460 crimes in 2015. 145 of the investigations were launched by the Chief of the Anti-Corruption Department, 90 criminal cases underwent separate proceedings, 62 criminal proceedings were renewed, 47 criminal cases, proceedings were launched on 47 criminal cases submitted by relevant authorities through Prosecutor General`s Office, 116 criminal cases remained unresolved from 2016, he said.

`Operational groups launched 27 criminal cases against 31 persons. As a result of operations, 16 officials were detained on corruption charges, 13 criminal cases were launched on 15 persons`, Aliyev noted.

165 of 200 crimes sent to the courts by Anti-Corruption Department under Prosecutor General caused financial damage in 2015.

AZN 36 101 000 (25.1%) of AZN 143 883 000 damage was paid during the investigations. During preliminary investigations, payment of AZN 4 805 000 (17.5%) of AZN 27 561 000 damage caused to state property, payment of AZN 31 296 000 (27.0%) of AZN 116 313 000 damage caused to private property and payment of AZN 900 (9.2%) of AZN 9 811 damage caused to municipal property was ensured,” He noted.

In connection with the action plan jointly approved by the State Service for Anti-Monopoly Policy and Protection of Consumer Rights under the Ministry of Economy and Industry on 29 Dec. 2015 against possible artificial price hike, monopoly and other cases of abuse, the Main Department is continuing necessary preventive and administrative measures and as well as actions of criminal prosecution on a successive basis, he added.

A total of 169 officials faced disciplinary proceedings after the Main Anti-Corruption Department considered appeals in 2015, the Head of the Main Anti-Corruption Department Kamran Aliyev said at today’s press conference.

Among them, 42 are officials of the Health Ministry officials, 28 of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, 13 of the Ministry of Education, 48 of the Interior Ministry, 1 of the Defense Ministry, 1 one of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, 1 of the Customs Committee and 35 of other state organizations.

Kamran Aliyev said that during the reporting period, the call center (161) of the the Main Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General received 7,266 calls. Of them, 5,820 were initial and 1,446 were repeated.

5,954 of the 7,266 requests were sent to ministries, committees, and other organizations, and preventive and other measures were taken on 2,100 requests. 449 of them were investigated at the Prosecutor General’s Office and 833 at concerned prosecuting structures.

Criminals cases were opened on 30 requests made via the call center in 2015.

2,614 citizens were received at the Main Anti-Corruption Department. Of them, 422 were received by the head and department heads of the Main Department, and 2,021 by prosecutors on duty.
