Europe's largest NATO base to be built in Romania

Construction of the biggest NATO base in Europe, designed for 10,000 servicemen, has begun in Romania.

Construction of the facility is estimated at 2.5 billion euros ($2.7 billion), according to Euronews.

The base, covering 2,800 hectares, is in Constanta district, where the Romanian port is located. Its infrastructure is being built on the basis of the NATO Air Base “Mihail Kogalniceanu”.

The base will be home to 10,000 NATO servicemen and their families.

There will be runways, hangars for aircraft, storage and deployment facilities for weapons, fuel and lubricants, training equipment, schools, kindergartens, shops, and a hospital.
