Azerbaijani citizen arrested for alleged terror plot

The State Security Service (SSS) of Azerbaijan arrested Bahruz Alimammad oglu Askarov, a 1988-born Azerbaijani citizen residing in Murmansk, Russia. Investigations revealed Askarov's involvement with others in plotting to disrupt public order, incite panic, and influence decision-making by authorities and international organizations. He was suspected of planning a terrorist act causing fatalities and other severe social consequences.

The SSS reported that Askarov recruited individuals across Azerbaijan, instructing them to assassinate the head of Lankaran City Executive Power and target a foreign English language teacher.

Through comprehensive operations and investigations, the SSS apprehended Askarov. He faces criminal charges under Articles 28 and 214.2.1 (preparation for terrorism) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code. The court has ordered his pretrial detention.

The SSS also discovered Askarov's plan to arrange military training for his contacts in a foreign country. However, the SSS's actions prevented him from carrying out these crimes.

The investigation remains ongoing to uncover all details of the case.
