Bloody day leaves 31 dead, 66 injured in Baghdad
At least 31 people were killed and 66 were injured on Wednesday in violent attacks that targeted various parts of the Iraqi capital.
The largest attack left 20 people dead and 32 injured, a police source told Anadolu Agency.

“A car bomb went off on the side of the road in front of the entrance to the police station, in a Shia-dominated area, southwest of Baghdad,” the source said.

Another car bomb in northern Baghdad’s Al-Shab neighborhood left four people dead and 18 others injured.

Meanwhile, two suicide bombers blew themselves up at a joint police and army security checkpoint in northern Baghdad.

A security source told Anadolu Agency that “the attack on the checkpoint killed five people, the two bombers and injured 16 others.”

“Most of the victims were members of the security forces,” he added.

Daily bombings have become a familiar phenomenon in Baghdad and other large provinces in the country, often targeting civilians.

In February, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi, citing “improved security conditions” in the capital, lifted the city’s nighttime curfew, which had been in effect for eight years.

Daesh had claimed responsibility for previous attacks in Baghdad.
