Russia has done everything to keep Armenia as a state – political scientist

Russia has done everything for Armenia to keep it in the status of a state, Yevgeny Satanovsky, a Russian political scientist and the president of the Institute of the Middle East, said in an interview with Armenian media, AzVision.az reports.

Commenting on the ongoing political crisis in Armenia, Satanovsky said Yerevan faced a difficult situation during the recent snap parliamentary elections. The political scientist noted that the situation within Armenia is related to the geopolitical situation around this country.

“Everything that happened to Armenia depends not on Russia, but on Armenia and its people. Russia has done everything for Armenia to keep it in the status of a state. As far as I can judge, Russia still adheres to its material and other activities. Many people in Russia often say: Why the hell we need this? Why should we, in the end, continue to be responsible for the policies pursued by the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union? Moreover, they say: look, there is Azerbaijan, which is rich in oil and has plenty of money. Look at Turkey, which also has a lot of material things connected with Moscow,” he added.

Satanovsky underlined that no one, except Russia, has done so much in favor of Armenia.

The political scientist regarded Armenia’s acting PM Pashinyan’s inclination to the West after the Second Karabakh War as ‘abnormal’.

He noted that the West does not attach importance to Yerevan.

“What about Armenia’s future? Nobody is interested in this country. In fact, unlike Turkey and Azerbaijan, it has no geopolitical interest. Armenia has so far shown absolute incompetence,” Satanovsky concluded.
