Azerbaijan’s ADY Container and Rail Cargo Austria ink MoU

A delegation led by Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Javid Gurbanov met with the Chairman of Austrian Federal Railways JSC Andreas Matte, AzVision.az reports citing the press service of Azerbaijan Railways.

The Azerbaijani delegation is on a working visit to Austria.

The sides noted the role of multimodal rail transportation in expanding economic ties and increasing trade between two countries.

The sides discussed building up joint efforts to more effectively use the Trans-Caspian international transport route (TITR) against the backdrop of the situation in the region, increasing the volume of multimodal rail freight in the directions China-Europe-China and Central Asia-Europe-Central Asia.

Strengthening joint activities and partnerships in these areas was also the focus of separate bilateral meetings between representatives of Azerbaijan Railways and representatives of leading European freight companies Rail Cargo, Metrans (Czech railway operator) and Bahnoperator GmbH (Germany).

Rail Cargo company operates in 18 countries, has 12 international logistics centers and 16 terminals.

The company's annual cargo transportation is about 94 million tons.

Metrans delivers 200 train blocks per week. The annual volume of freight traffic is 1.4 million Twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU).

Bahnoperator sends 20 container trains a week from China to Europe. These are quite large numbers.

The activities of these companies operating in Central and Southern Europe serve to move the hub from Northern Europe to Southern and Central Europe and maintain the volume of cargo on the TITR.

Memorandum of understanding and cooperation was signed between ADY Container LLC (subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways), and the Austrian Rail Cargo in framework of visit. The sides will work together to ensure uninterrupted and fast delivery of multimodal rail cargo from Europe via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, also cargo from the Romanian port of Constanta to the Georgian port of Poti, and then to Central Asia and China.

ADY Container, together with Georgian GR Logistics and terminals, and Kazakh KTZ Express, with the support of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), launches container transportation of goods between ports of Poti and Constanta as part of TITR.
