Mexico City hosts event to mark Independence Day of Azerbaijan

An official reception dedicated to the 106th anniversary of Azerbaijan's independence was held in Mexico City.

Addressing the event, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Mexico Mammad Talibov said that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first secular and parliamentary republic in the East, was established 106 years ago.

Emphasizing that Azerbaijan has achieved significant socio-economic development over the past years, the diplomat said the country successfully continued along this path in the face of the challenge of restoring the territories of Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur to ensure the safe and dignified return of IDPs to their homeland. The ambassador also informed the guests about the reconstruction and restoration works carried out by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories.

Speaking at the event on behalf of Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alicia Bárcena, Department Head of the Ministry Jorge Rascon conveyed the greetings and congratulations of the leadership of the Ministry.

Touching upon the history of Mexico's relations with Azerbaijan, Jorge Rascon recalled National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s visit to Mexico in 1982. He highlighted National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s invaluable role in the development of modern Azerbaijan, including the establishment of relations with Mexico.

The event also featured the screening of videos on the COP29 logo and tourism opportunities of Azerbaijan.
