Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister visits Somalia

A delegation led by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Yalchin Rafiyev has visited the Federal Republic of Somalia to explore opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation in political, economic, humanitarian, and other areas, as well as strengthening high-level relations within international organizations.

During the visit, the Azerbaijani delegation met with Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, and other senior officials.

The sides emphasized the growing engagement between the two countries in recent years and discussed prospects for cooperation. They highlighted the potential for collaboration in key sectors, including oil and gas, green energy, agriculture, fisheries, humanitarian aid, and education, underscoring the importance of establishing a bilateral legal and contractual framework.

As part of the visit, the first round of political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Azerbaijan and Somalia was held. The meeting was co-chaired by Yalchin Rafiyev and Ali Mohamed Omar, Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. Discussions focused on bilateral political and economic issues, as well as cooperation within the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other international platforms.

The Azerbaijani delegation included representatives from the Ministries of Defense, Defense Industry, Energy, Science and Education, Economy, and Agriculture, along with the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan.
