"The Embraer 190 aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) that crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau, as well as the carrier's liability to passengers, were insured by AlphaStrakhovanie. The main portion of the risk was reinsured with the Russian National Reinsurance Company (RNPK). The payment for the aircraft in the amount of the full insurance sum was made in February," he said.
However, he did not disclose the amount of the aviation insurance compensation.
Kabachnik explained why the insurer did not need to wait for the completion of the official investigation into the aviation incident.
"Although the investigation of the crash is ongoing, we have enough information to organize payments. For us, as the insurer, the fact of the plane's destruction, which is beyond doubt, is the most important. Since risks of war and terrorism were also insured, the airline will receive compensation in any case," he noted.
Regarding the liability insurance agreement for damage to third parties, Kabachnik added: "We are not aware of any claims related to damage on the ground, nor do we expect them. If they arise, we will handle them according to the established procedure in cooperation with the airline."
The AZAL passenger plane, performing the Baku-Grozny flight, crashed on December 25, 2024, near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. Of the 67 people on board, 38 died, and 29 survived.
According to preliminary data, the plane crashed as a result of physical and technical external impacts in the Russian airspace over Grozny.
