Rebuffed over refugees, Obama aims to shift focus to visas
The White House is calling for changes that could prohibit some people from bypassing the traditional visa system to enter the American homeland.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says the administration wants to work with Congress on potential tweaks to the visa waiver program. The program enables visitors from 38 countries to enter the U.S. for short stays without first obtaining a visa.

He says the White House is already were in talks with two senators about legislation — Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California and Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona.

The comments come a day after President Barack Obama was rebuked by many in his own party in the debate over Syrian refugees. The House on Thursday overwhelmingly backed onerous hurdles for Syrian refugees, despite Obama`s veto threat.
